I have been involved in health services in Dorset and across the country as an NHS employee and later as an auditor and performance assessor for more than thirty years. I am the Lead Governor on the Council of Governors.
My early career was in NHS management. My personal career highlight was to be part of the team that planned and opened the first phase of Dorset County Hospital. Later in my career I worked in the public and private sector, with the most complex, high performing and prestigious NHS organisations and Local Government bodies in England. I have written national reports and lead studies of services ranging from Acute and Community Mental Health Services to Medical Staffing, and Anaesthetics and Pain Management. I have a special interest in the role of Hotel, Support and Estate services as I believe these services can make a real contribution to the quality of life for all patients but are often under resourced and undervalued.
As well as public sector experience I have significant knowledge of private of sector having worked in the accountancy sector for one of the major firms, and at the end of my career I ran a small high street business. I am currently the Chair of a growing limited company in the hospitality sector.
I recently undertook an artisan bakery apprenticeship and worked in an artisan bakery in Dorset for over two years. I still bake for fun.
I also volunteer at Weymouth Citizens Advice Bureau. This activity provides me with an invaluable insight into the health problems faced by local people.
I am excited to be a Public Governor at Dorset HealthCare, and to have the opportunity to use my skills, knowledge and commitment to help support our patients and our staff, and to improve health services for the people of Dorset.
