Early Intervention Services

What does it do?

EIS works with young people who have the early symptoms of an emerging psychosis. The service enables them to recover from the episode and aims to assist young people to continue to achieve their life time goals.

Service Delivery Area

Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset.

What are the service opening times?

Monday to Friday 9am to 17.00 pm (but flexible to meet the needs of young people and their families).

How can I refer?

By self referral, telephone or in writing.

What functions/treatment and therapies are offered?
  • Awareness of early signs of a potential emerging psychosis
  • Knowing where and how to access help
  • Early detection and intervention to improve longer term outcomes
  • Sense of hope and feeling of control
  • Understanding of psychosis and tools to assist with coping
  • Support for the family to steer a safe passage through
Which types of illness/medical condition does the service treat?

EIS works with young people who have the early symptoms of an emerging psychosis.

Who will I see?

The team consists of a range of trained people which includes Nurses, Doctors, Social Workers and Occupational Therapists. They have had training and experience of working with young people with early signs of psychosis and their families. They also have close links with other clinical teams and services, which can provide specialist help and support.

As a patient, how do I access services?

Self referral, GP, Youth Services, CAMHS, CMHTs, Inpatient Services, Schools.

How can I get involved / what support groups are available?

Advice can be given during the assessment process.

Do you have information for Carers?

Information for carers is available on request and is part of the assessment process.

Where, when and how often are the clinics?

EIS can offer support and treatment within a safe environment of the patient’s choice.
