Liaison Mental Health Services

What does it do?

To provide psychiatric assessment for patients in A&E departments in Dorset when necessary.

What are the service opening times?

Bournemouth and Poole Hospital

Monday to friday - 9.00 - 17.00

Dorchester County Hospital

Monday to Friday - 9.00 - 17.00

How can I refer?

The team takes referrals from A&E departments (where they are based) and the Acute Assessment Units(AAU) for patients who need psychiatric assessment.  Referrals for advice, assistance and formal requests for psychiatric opinions and diagnosis are also taken from the wards.

If you wish to refer from Dorset County Hospital please ensure you complete the referral/risk screening format before referring to the team.

The teams provide psychiatric assessment and deal with referrals for advice, assistance and formal requests for psychiatric opinions and diagnosis.

Any types of Mental Health illness

Who will I see?

Our three teams consist of Doctors, Nurses and Administration Assistants and work closely with other professionals such as Approved Mental Health Practitioners. The teams also liaise with the relevant inpatient and community services.

Referral from inpatient wards and Accident and Emergency

No clinics are held as patient is seen on the ward or in A&E
