The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
Referrals are normally received from Acute In-patient Wards, Prison Inreach Teams and the Crisis/Home Treatment Team.
Referrals are assessed by senior nursing staff on the Unit in collaboration with the appropriate clinical staff.
Haven Ward is a 5 bedded psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), which provides treatment and care for Service Users that have complex needs and require a higher level of support.
Haven operates within a Zoning framework – a system by which care can be targeted to those Service Users who are most in need.
The unit provides rapid intensive psychiatric treatment with enhanced levels of care, observation and security, for a discreet period of time.
The Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit provides therapeutic treatment for acutely unwell patients with Mental Illness who have complex needs and require high levels of support.
The multidisciplinary team is made up of Consultant psychiatrists, Registered Nurses and other clinical professionals. The Unit works closely with the Acute wards in St. Ann's hospital, the Community Mental Health Teams and care co-ordinators or Lead professionals for the individual.
