What functions/treatment and therapies are offered?

The Children's Learning Disability Service offers community care for anyone aged 0 - 19 years who requires specialist medical care or nursing care, as well as offering support and help to their families.  This includes some short breaks for children with complex conditions.  All of our treatments are tailored to an individual's needs.

Which types of illness/medical condition does the service treat?

We help children with learning disabilities to develop as individuals and improve the quality of their lives.

Who will I see?

We have a wealth of specialist expertise including Consultant Psychiatrist, Nurses, Psychiatrist, Speech and Language Therapist, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Dietitian.

As a patient, how do I access services?

Families with a child that has learning disabilities can request a referral from their GP, Paediatrician, Social Worker or School. Alternatively, you can pick up a "Family Support Clinic" leaflet from your child's school and contact us directly.

How can I get involved / what support groups are available?

We run several groups regularly throughout the year.

  1. - SIBS; a group for the brothers and sisters of the disabled child in the family. We are always looking for volunteers to help "Friends of SIBS" in fundraising.
  2. - ASCEND; a parent training group in understanding the Autistic Condition.
  3. - Parenting Through the Senses; helping parents understand their child's sensory processing difficulties.
