IPTS is a tertiary service so only accepts referrals from Community Mental Health Teams and other specialist services with Dorset HealthCare.

What functions/treatment and therapies are offered?

Our dedicated team is trained to provide talking therapies for people who have longstanding difficulties managing their emotions and relationships. Our service has attracted national recognition for being a model of good practice, providing evidenced-based care, national training and consultations and engaging in research. 

Our enthusiastic team aims to provide the most effective treatments available, such as cognitive analytic therapy (CAT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and radically-open dialectical behaviour therapy (RO-DBT). New IPTS projects, that clients could get involved with, include the creation of peer support groups in collaboration with the Recovery Education Centre (REC).

Which types of illness/medical condition does the service treat?

Adults with enduring emotional and psychological mental health problems, in particular Personality disorders and Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Who will I see?

Staff include Clinical Psychologists, Occupation Therapists, Nurse Therapists, Psychological  Therapists and Assistant Psychologists.

As a patient, how do I access services?

A supporting referral via your Community Mental Health Team is required.

Once referred to the service and accepted for therapy, patients will be placed on the waiting list.

Referrals are discussed within clients’ CMHTs and if therapy is to be offered, patients are seen at point of contact.
