Jan Owens - Public Governor for Dorset/Rest of England & Wales

I am a strong advocate of integrated local health & social care services to look after people in their own homes or in their community. Good information & access is essential. I am committed to patients' & carer's involvement in developing services because I have seen the huge improvement this makes to what & where services are delivered.

I have been a governor for Dorset Healthcare for the last 3 years & been very encouraged at progress the Board has made to improve the quality of services & win the approval of the Care Quality Commission. I hope I have contributed to these improvements by raising issues from patients, staff & public. I have been a member of several governor working groups, drafting robust responses to NHS commissioners to proposals for future of our health services in Dorset. I have worked with the NHS in Dorset for 17 years in various capacities, mainly as a non-executive director with commissioners and providers; previously I worked in Social Services. I am concerned about the state of flux in these services and I will continue to work strenuously to protect & enhance these vital services for the benefit of local people.
