Joy Ford - Public Governor for Dorset/Rest of England & Wales

I feel very passionate about NHS, it never gets a fair press. I feel strongly about mental health having cared for my seriously mentally ill son. I've also had two bouts of cancer - breast and ovarian the treatment and support I've received has been excellent I'm in my tenth year from breast cancer and I'm still here, thanks to NHS staff. I meet staff at induction talks.

I am chair of the Dorset Mental Health Carers Project. I'm a peer specialist with Dorset Mental Health Forum, I work as a Peer with the Recovery Education Centre I've help in co-production on courses, steering groups for the carers Strat steering group for Triangle of Care, leaflet for confidentiality, carer awareness for paramedics, and 2nd year nurses, and sat as a Peer with the CCG's ACP meetings. As chair of the Dorset Mental Health Carers Project I run a "crisis help line" for carers. Produce a 1/4 newsletter. Hold a Carers Celebration Lunch every year and Two carers events one in the East and one in West/North. Talk to carers to find out what works for them.
