I had been in the NHS for 42 years before retiring in 2011. I started my career at Odstock Hospital as an apprentice chef and moved to the north east for 6 years in order to progress my career. This led to a move into catering management at Blandford Hospital where I was honoured to cater for the Princess Royal on the official opening of the hospital. A move to general management in 1989 took me to Herrison Hospital where I managed all the support services. In 1991 I became the Locality Manager for North and West Dorset which included Mental Health and Learning Disabilities as well as Community Services. Following more reorganisations I became the Senior Manager responsible for Community Hospitals for East Dorset.
I have been a member of Portland Rotary Club for over 20 years enabling me to give something back to the community. I am also the Chair of the Dorchester and District Evening League and umpire regularly, allowing me to give something back to the game I have played and loved for more than 40 years. I was representing Dorset on the Community Hospitals Association as Locality Manager and now I represent the League of Friends. I have been a member of the Blandford Hospital League of Friends and after holding senior positions within the ‘Friends’ I have been chairman for 4 years. This led me becoming the Chair of the Dorset Network of Friends more recently.
Having gained a wealth of experience over the years in the NHS and more recently with the Blandford Friends I hope to use this to support Dorset HealthCare University Trust in my role as Partner Governor.
