Experience: Psychiatry
Experience: Psychiatry runs from the 22-25 July.
Every year, Dorset HealthCare runs a work experience programme for sixth form students interested in the field of psychiatry. Often, due to the nature of mental health services, it is difficult to gain practical work experience in psychiatry settings. Dorset HealthCare has created this program, run by our foundation doctors and core trainees, to provide information, insight, and a unique practical experience to inspire aspiring medics into psychiatry.
Each years the facilitators change, and therefore, so does the programme. This ensures the programme remains up to date. The following topics and activities have been the core content of previous years agenda:
- Introduction to Psychiatry
- Common Mental Health Problems
- Tips for UCAS Medical School application
- Mock interviews
- 1 Day Shadowing a Psychiatry Consultant.
