Why do you want to be a governor?

Prior to retiring, I spent the last 15 years in the NHS as a Payroll Manager, ensuring that the staff are being paid correctly. Now I feel that I now have the time to offer my services to give back something to the community and to help oversee as part of another team to ensure locally that Service Users are being delivered a high quality of service expected from an outstanding rated NHS Trust.

What skills do you feel you could bring to the role?

As a Payroll Manager understanding complex data as supplied by the Inland-revenue, NHS Pay Awards, Medical and Dental pay regulations, Pensions and Pension auto-enrolment to be applied to ensure that its applied correctly. For 2 years was Chair of the South West Pension Group meeting quarterly with all the pensions teams in the south-west with the NHS Pensions Agency to discuss issues affecting staff pensions. Have experience of communicating with all levels staff and try into help them understand why certain things happens. Also have been involved in the introduction for the electronic staff rostering system, checking and processing to ensure that the system was working correctly and employees were paid as per reported. Reporting to the HMRC every month and checking data that was required to ensure the Trust was meeting its regulatory requirements.
