Why do you want to be a governor?

DHCTrust has a broad range of services both community and hospital based. I have knowledge and experience in both of these settings. I am now retired but I have been fortunate to have had a varied and enjoyable working life with the NHS in hospitals as a nurse, ward sister and in the community as a Public Health professional and as a Health Visitor. I have a good knowledge of governance. I have a good knowledge of the DHCT

services and its priorities. I have worked to promote services to older people, children and their parents and to those with mental health and alcohol and drug addiction problems. I believe it is important to value and support patients/service users and staff.  I have worked to gain good input from service users into the development of services. I would use this knowledge and skill to contribute the governance of DHCTrust to inform improvements.  As a governor I think that I would be a good patient advocate and sensitive to staff and organisational pressures but always putting patients/ service users first.

What skills do you feel you could bring to the role?

I have clinical and management experience gained in the NHS and as a manager in Children Social Care and Ofsted as a Children Homes Inspector. As a result I have developed good set of skills including knowledge of DHCTrust, listening, evaluating and decision making that I believe supports being a governor.
