Information for Patients

Dorset Musculoskeletal (MSK) Services has been developed by doctors and experienced physiotherapists alongside orthopaedic surgeons, to provide an early assessment for patients with musculo-skeletal problems.

Dorset Musculoskeletal (MSK) Services provides your local, accessible orthopaedic service.

When more investigations are required to aid in diagnosis or a referral to an orthopaedic surgeon is needed, this will be explained in detail to you.

We also provide a specific back pain service for GP's to refer into. This is called the Acute Back Pain Service. It is designed to treat recent episodes of back and leg pain, to enable people to get back to full function quickly. See all about this service here.

Our team of orthopaedic practitioners and doctors provide a comprehensive, primary care orthopaedic service to you. We offer a wide choice of local clinics in Weymouth, Portland, Blandford and Bridport community hospitals, as well as healthcare centres in Poundbury, Dorchester, Bournemouth and Poole. See the Locations area for more information.

For transport issues, please see our transport page which fully explains Patient Transport Services (PTS) around Dorset and how to access these services.

A thorough examination is carried out and up to 30 minutes may be required for an initial consultation. Once a diagnosis has been made, options of treatment and/or a management plan is decided with the full participation of the patient.

For more information, please see the sections at the top of this page, including the section 'Your Appointment' which explains clearly the process of our service to you.
