Learning and Development
'Our mission is to provide flexible, personal and team development, enhancing individuals’ knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver excellent patient care and organisational success'
The Dorset HealthCare Trust Induction is a two-day course undertaken by all new starters. The induction takes them through their necessary mandatory training, as well as introducing you to our Trust Vision, Values and Behaviours, covering a variety of topics, from Equality & Diversity training to dementia awareness. The course is a corporate welcome to the organisation, as well as a chance to hear the experiences of some of our service users and carers to remind us why our work is so important.
Download the Induction Programme to see an itinerary for the day. Please note that timings may be subject to change; new starters will be send a programme with the correct timing before their induction.
There is a section of induction which is presented via electronic tablets. Please see the Documents list below to update yourself.
All new staff will need to attend Trust Induction, whereas only certain new staff will need to attend the following training. If you are unsure about whether you need to attend, contact your line manager. Don't know who this is? Call 01202 277145.

Development for existing staff
An apprenticeship is a training scheme which results in a nationally recognised qualification in the area the apprentice has been learning in. It is a paid role, with training given from an external provider. There are many different levels of apprenticeships, in many different areas. Apprenticeships are available to anyone of any age as long as they meet the entry requirements. More information is available on our staff intranet.
Online Training / Classroom sessions
Within Dorset Healthcare we provide online training, and an online booking and recording system for any training that staff complete called eHub. We use eHub to record, book and review our training, and this website links to eLearning which provides online training sessions. These resources are available 24/7 both on and off Trust site's using any device connected to the internet. We have provided our Learning and Development Prospectus above.
