Dermatology (skin conditions)

We provide assessment, management and treatment for adults and children with skin conditions.

Our dermatology service runs a number of clinics across Dorset, treating conditions such as:

acne
eczema
psoriasis
nail and scalp disorders
rashes
inflammatory disorders.

Our specialist staff can offer a wide range of treatment and therapies, including advice, education and self-management plans, medication, creams, gels and lotions, liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, and minor surgery.

If you, or your loved one, would like to access this service, please contact your GP. This service does not accept self-referrals.

If you require an urgent assessment of a skin lesion for suspected cancer, this is NOT provided by the community dermatology service. Fast track clinics are provided in Dorset’s acute hospitals (Dorset County Hospital, Poole Hospital and Christchurch Hospital) – if your GP is concerned about your skin lesion, they will refer you directly to a hospital-based service as part of the faster diagnostic clinics

Please note that this is the wait for routine appointments and you may be seen sooner than this. If you are worried that your skin condition is getting significantly worse whilst you wait for your first appointment, then please speak to your GP.

Criteria for removing benign lesions

If you have a non cancerous lesion that is causing problems, removal of a lesion will only take place after you’ve had a medical assessment of your condition, and can only be carried out for people who meet certain conditions as described in NHS Dorset clinical policy on benign skin lesions.
