Family members and other informal, unpaid carers have the same rights to an assessment and support as the people they care for.

A carer’s assessment will look at the impacts that caring has on your life, including your health, work, family commitments and free time. It will assess your physical, mental and emotional needs, and help you to get advice, support and information that may assist you with your caring role.

You can complete the form by yourself or with help from family members or friends. For more information, depending on where you live, visit:

You and the person you care for could also be entitled to a range of benefits, including:

  • Carer’s Allowance

  • Attendance Allowance

  • Carer’s Credit

  • Personal Independence Payments (PIPs).
