Our musculoskeletal service (MSK) provides assessment, diagnosis and support with musculoskeletal conditions.

These are conditions that can affect muscles, bones, and joints, in any part of the body. They include common problems such as lower back pain, tennis elbow, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome and osteoarthritis. You can be referred to this service by your GP or physiotherapist.

Our specialist orthopaedic staff work from clinics across Dorset, and offer a range of advice and treatments.

Following your assessment, we may refer you to other services to assist your rehabilitation.

Visit the MSK Matters website for information about musculoskeletal conditions, and click on the links below for more information about our service.

If you are looking for physiotherapy advice and information, please visit our physiotherapy pages.

Key information about this service

Referrals are made to Dorset MSK by GPs, nurse practitioners, first-contact practitioners and NHS physiotherapists. If you feel that you need a referral to your service, please discuss this with one of these healthcare professionals.

If you have been referred on, there will always be a short wait. If you are concerned, please contact the service you have been referred to.

Many of our patients do not need regular follow-up appointments with our clinicians. Instead, some patients are offered 'patient initiated follow-up' (PIFU) appointments. This means you can arrange a follow-up appointment as and when you need it.

Your referral will be left open with the service for six months after your last appointment date, after this time you may need a new referral from your GP or health care professional to access the service.

The clinician responsible for your care will tell you what symptoms or complications after treatment to look out for, that would mean you should make an appointment. They will also provide you with the information you need on how to contact the service.
