If you require urgent care, please call 111 or go online for an assessment. This helps us to provide the right support/treatment as quickly as possible, and could save you an unnecessary journey.

If you turn up unannounced at an MIU or urgent treatment centre (UTC) during its opening hours, you will be assessed but could be directed elsewhere or given an appointment later that day or the next.

Phone NHS 111 if you’re not sure what support you need, or call 999 for anything life threatening as normal.

The last appointment at all MIUs is half an hour before closing time.

What do MIUs do?

If you have an injury or ailment which is not life threatening or serious, 111 staff may ask you to attend a minor injuries unit and urgent care centre. They can treat:

  • injuries to upper and lower limbs
  • broken bones, sprains, bruises, and wounds to shoulder, upper limbs, knee, lower leg, ankle and foot
  • bites – human, animal, and insect
  • burns and scalds
  • wound infections
  • minor head injuries
  • foreign bodies in eyes, nose, and ear
  • urinary tract infections
  • upper respiratory tract infections
  • emergency contraception
  • minor asthma attacks.
