Yeatman Hospital - Sherborne
The hospital was built by the four surviving children of George and Elizabeth Burt as a memorial to their parents in 1894. Swanage Hospital remained a cottage hospital until 1948 when it became an NHS hospital. The impressive fire place that is still in situ when you enter the hospital has the original ‘bas relief’ medallions of George and Elizabeth Burt.
Originally designed to house 14 inpatients, Swanage Hospital now has 15 inpatient beds, a minor injuries unit, X-ray and ultrasound and physiotherapy. Our outpatients department is supported by consultants from University Hospitals Dorset and Dorset County Hospital.
The hospital provides eye services including consultant-led ophthalmology, orthoptic, glaucoma reviews and diabetic eye screening.
Swanage Hospital’s end of life care on Stanley Purser has been recognised by the award of Gold Standard Framework accreditation. We have also completed the first stage for the Quality Mark for Elder Friendly Care and the radiology department is QSI accredited.
The hospital is very well supported by a very committed Friends of Swanage Hospital and also held in very high regard by the town of Swanage.
If you require urgent care, please call 111 or go online for an assessment. This help us to provide the right support/treatment as quickly as possible, and could save you an unnecessary journey.
If you turn up unannounced at the MIU, you will be assessed but could be directed elsewhere or given an appointment later that day or the next.
The last appointment at all MIUs is half an hour before closing time.
