Will you get a special edition Royal Mint 10p coin at a Dorset HealthCare site?
Dorset HealthCare is one of just two trusts in the south west to partner with The Royal Mint for the release of a limited number of special ‘NHS’ design 10p coins.
The ‘N’ coins, marking the NHS’s 70th birthday and part of an A-Z collection of all things British, will be available in Dorset in the restaurants at these Dorset HealthCare sites:
- Alderney Hospital, Poole
- Blandford Hospital
- The Yeatman Hospital, Sherborne
- Bridport Hospital
Created as part of The Great British Coin Hunt, the ‘NHS’ 10p coin celebrates one of the many things that makes Britain great. They’ll be released gradually over the next week with the first ones available at Alderney Hospital today (10 July).
Anne Jessopp, Chief Executive of The Royal Mint said: “The ‘N’ for NHS has proved a very popular choice with the public as a Great British Coin Hunt 10p theme. The NHS is a well-respected national institution - most Britons will come into contact with it at some time in their lives, so it was a natural choice.”
Ron Shields, Chief Executive of Dorset HealthCare said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen to help distribute these special coins as part of our celebration of the NHS 70th birthday.
“Members of the public, patients and staff can enjoy the great catering in our restaurants and might also be lucky enough to get a special 10p coin in their change.”
To get your hands on one of these special 10p coins, you just need to make a cash purchase at one of the restaurants listed. Coins are available in selected NHS restaurants and shops around the country and you can also buy them from The Royal Mint in a range of finishes, from uncirculated to silver proof.
Additional coins launched as part of The Great British Coin Hunt include cricket and the Loch Ness monster. The 26 coins map out the A-Z of what makes Britain great – from the Angel of the North to a Zebra Crossing.
Accompanying the physical Great British Coin Hunt collection, The Royal Mint has introduced the Great British Coin Hunt app, allowing coin hunters to create a digital collection of the coins they find in their change.
Users can download the app for free from the App Store or Google Play to scan the coin with their camera, unlocking exclusive content and placing their coin into a digital folder.
They can also link the app to their social media to share the treasures they find in their pockets and wallets.
A heat-map within the app shows where different coins are being found around the country and users can even use the app to have a go at designing their own coin.
The entire collection has been rolling out into circulation across the country and is available at selected Post Offices. A collectors’ folder, and silver proof and uncirculated versions of the 10p coins are available to purchase from The Royal Mint website.
