The NHS in
Dorset is offering 50 new full time Registered Nurse Degree Apprenticeship
places. This is a new project, launched and managed by ‘Our Dorset Workforce’.
apprenticeship provides the opportunity to study for a nursing degree and
qualify as a nurse whilst being paid. Both adult nursing and mental health
nursing will be available.
In the first year of study apprentices will be paid a salary of over
£17,000, which will rise in the second year following the successful
completion of year one. There are also no tuition fees to pay.
The four-year course will start in September 2019 and will be provided by
either Solent University in Southampton or through The Open University. The
course will combine university study alongside working as an apprentice on the
wards or in another healthcare setting in Dorset.
This means apprentices could be placed in any of Dorset’s
acute hospitals (Royal Bournemouth, Poole Hospital or Dorset County
Hospital in Dorchester), with Dorset Healthcare in a community hospital, a
mental health or learning disability service or in general practice or a care
They will ask applicants to state a preference for their main base of
work however apprentices should be prepared to work anywhere in Dorset and
will be expected to move around different services and sites for placements to
gain a full range of experiences.
