Show your appreciation of local nurses in person or online

6th May 2016

People around Dorset will have the chance to say ‘thank you’ to hard-working local nurses next week.

Thursday (12 May) is International Nurses’ Day, an opportunity to celebrate the work of nurses around the world. Dorset HealthCare will be showcasing its brilliant, dedicated staff throughout the week with photographs and messages on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram

And the Trust’s health visiting team for Weymouth and Portland is also giving people the chance show their appreciation the old-fashioned way, by filling out a card at one of its child health clinics around the borough.

Health visitors are all qualified nurses and /or midwives, who provide vital support for families with babies and toddlers, up until they start school. Anyone visiting one of the clinics next week will be able to complete a ‘thank you’ card and comment about how a health visitor, nurse or member of any other nursing team has made a difference to their life.

The clinics will take place at:

  • Monday May 9 10–11.30am Wyke Regis Health Centre

  • Tuesday May 10 1.30–3 pm Gatehouse Surgery, Portland

2–3pm Cross Road Surgery

  • Wednesday May 11 10am-12noon Westham Children’s Centre

11am–12.45pm Dorchester Road Surgery

1.30–3pm Royal Crescent Surgery

  • Thursday May 12 10am–12noon The Bridges Medical Centre

10.30am–12noon Easton Health Centre Portland

  • Friday May 13 11am–12.30pm Bincombe Valley Children’s Centre

Katy Hall, Dorset HealthCare’s lead health visitor for the area, said:

“As well as Nurses’ Day, we are also getting behind the Royal College of Nursing’s ‘A chance to say thank you’ campaign. Patients and other people often want to express their gratitude to nurses, so these cards will give people the chance to write a short message of support or appreciation.”

Nurses' Day takes place each year on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. If you can’t make it to one of those clinics but want to show your support to our nursing staff, why not join in the conversation on social media?
