Admiral nurses

There are two community-based admiral nurses working in Dorset who practice in close working relationships with the Trust services. Admiral nurses are continually trained, developed and supported by their employing agency and also by Dorset HealthCare.

Admiral nurses are one way of providing the specialist dementia support that families and carers may need. When life with dementia gets difficult and demanding, Admiral nurses work alongside people with dementia, their families and carers: giving one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions which can be hard to find elsewhere.

Rachel Murray, the admiral nurse who was appointed jointly with the Purbeck PCn and Dementia UK, believes that families that have an Admiral Nurses support have "someone truly expert and caring by their side – helping them to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear."
