Changing the tubing in your hearing aid

Hearing aids with a mould

The tube that connects the earmould to the hearing aid should always be soft/flexible. When the tubing becomes hard/less flexible you’ll need to replace it, otherwise your hearing aid won't work properly.

If you haven't been shown how to do this yourself, please call the Audiology department on 0300 303 8640 to get the tubes changed.

if you have been shown how to do this and have spare tubing you may be able to do it yourself.

Step 1

Pull the old tubing out of the ear mould. Don't throw the old tubing away - you'll need it later.

Step 2

Cut the last 5cm (2 inches) of a pre-bent piece of tubing to a tapered end. Thread this through the ear mould until it comes out of the other end.

Step 3

Pull the tube until the bend reaches the mould. All the tapered section should have come through the other side.

Step 4

Cut the tapered tubing  as close as possible to the ear mould. Any tube sticking out could rub your ear and make it sore.

Step 5

Take the old piece of tubing you saved and line it up with the newly-threaded tube. Cut the end to the same length.

Step 6

Push the end of the tubing onto the plastic nozzle on yoru hearing aid. Make sure that it bends in the right direction, as shown in the picture.
