Using your hearing aid with your phone

With a landline phone

You need to hold the top of the phone handset as closely as possible to the microphone on the hearing aid. This will be at the top of your ear.

Do not hold the phone in the normal position. the ear mould will block sounds from entering your ear.

With a smartphone/tablet

You may have already been fitted or are going to be fitted with hearing aids which work with some smartphones/tablets.

These extra features can be a bonus for people who are comfortable using apps and smartphones. If you wouldn’t describe yourself like this, don’t worry – the new hearing aids work perfectly well on their own, and you don’t need to read any more of this page!

Please note that your particular hearing aid may not be compatible with apps and/or streaming. We appreciate that this can be disappointing, but unfortunately, it’s not something that Audiology can help you with.

Apps and streaming are additional features, the responsibility of learning to use the App/streaming is with the hearing aid user (support from friends and family can be beneficial if you are less confident with technology).

Connecting to Oticon hearing aids

‘Oticon ON’ is a free app that allows you to adjust the volume and change programs (if these features are activated on your Oticon hearing aids). There are also other features on the app including ‘Find my hearing aid’. There are supporting resources available from Oticon to help with downloading, connecting and use.

For iPhone/iPad users (not Android phones/tablets) you may also be able to directly stream phone calls and music from your smartphone/tablet to your hearing aids.
