What does it do?

The service investigates and manages chronic respiratory conditions and other conditions such as obstructive sleep apnoea.

What are the service opening times?

Wednesday afternoon fortnightly.

GP referral to Dorset HealthCare NHS Foundation Trust.

What functions/treatment and therapies are offered?

We offer a wide range of investigations (some tests are done in Poole Hospital).  Examples of tests are:

  • Overnight oxymetry
  • Full lung function tests
  • Histamine challenge test
  • Exercise testing for exercise induced bronchial asthma
  • Muscle funciton tests
  • Oxygen assessment
  • CT scan of chest
  • Bronchoscopy

  • Asthma
  • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
  • Chronic cough
  • Bronchiectasis
  • Pulmonary fibrosis
  • Obstructive sleep apnoea
  • Sarcoidosis
  • Neuromuscular disease with involvement of respiratory muscles

 

We also run a COPD Nurse-led clinic once a month which is beneficial to all COPD patients in terms of assessing their inhaler technique and providing them with a self-management plan.

A range of printed information leaflets is available from the outpatient department.

The clinic is held in the outpatient department on a Wednesday afternoon fortnightly.
