Forensic Mental Health (inpatient)

The Dorset Forensic Team assesses and treats people with severe mental disorders who present a risk of serious harm to others. The team has a range of specially-trained professionals who see people both in our inpatient unit at St Ann’s Hospital, Poole, and out in the community.

Our aim is to help people recover from their mental disorder and to reduce the risk of them re-offending. We work closely with Police and Probation services, as part of the multi-agency public protection arrangements (MAPPA), and the service can be accessed only through referrals from MAPPA or secondary care mental health services.

The team is made up of psychiatrists, clinical and forensic psychologists, inpatient nurses and community mental health nurses, social workers, occupational therapists and support workers – most of whom have specialist forensic training.
