Alison Fisher - Public Governor for Dorset/Rest of England & Wales

I want to contribute to my community by representing local people at a time when the NHS is experiencing massive challenges, pressures and changes whilst trying to meet an increased demand for services. I want to ensure that the public knows what happens in their NHS trust - the good as well as the not so good - and, in order to do this, I will be looking to monitor communication channels to ensure they are effective for all parties. I want to get involved to make things better rather than sit back and complain.

My previous role was as CEO of a regional mental health charity, whose goals and values were community-based in order to get the best outcome for vulnerable individuals. Throughout my career, I have been instrumental in setting up service user involvement in all aspects of the services we ran in the belief that that the end user is the always the expert by experience. My experience of working with a range of NHS Trusts as a voluntary sector leader means that I understand their terminology, systems and pressures at a strategic level. I have excellent communication and negotiation skills and can stand up for myself if required. I was a founding Board member of Central Bedfordshire's Healthwatch and promoted good patient experience
