Helen Lawes - Staff Governor

Why do you want to be a governor?
I am a passionate clinical leader with an interest in Community Hospitals and Community Services. I am keen to help ensure that future services are of high quality, integrated with all partners and fit for purpose. This is especially important with the changes the implementation of the Clinical Service Review (CSR) will bring and the impact this will have on localities. This is particularly pertinent in more rural areas of the county where the aim to bring care and services closer to home are particularly challenging. I care about staff experiences and opinions and I want their voices to be heard. The NHS is truly unique and in its 70th year we must do all we can to make sure we make a difference for those who use it in the future.

What skills do you feel you could bring to the role?
As a Hospital Matron and an Occupational Therapist who has worked for the last 25 years as a Rehab Assistant, Healthcare Assistant, Falls Specialist, Head Occupational Therapist and Ward Manager. I fully understand the challenges that clinical staff and support staff face on a daily basis. I am a can do person with a problem solving approach to life. I am a very positive person with excellent communication skills and I really want to be able to make a difference. I would love to be given the chance to represent staff views and work with the Board Members.
