Staff Extranet >
We are now allowing limited visiting to our inpatient hospital wards and mental health units, in line with current COVID-19 restrictions.
Visiting is only permitted once a patient has been admitted for 72 hours and we know they do not have the virus.
Unfortunately, no visitors are allowed for patients who have COVID-19, except for compassionate reasons – for example, to see people receiving end-of-life care.
We understand these restrictions are very difficult, but are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and keep people safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are offering a virtual inpatient visiting service at a number of our sites, where electronic tablets are given to inpatients to keep in contact with relatives and friends via video.
Outpatient appointments are continuing to take place where appropriate and where it is safe to do so. We would recommend you come alone unless it is with a child or someone that needs additional support. For further information please review how our services are running or contact the service directly. Prior to attending a site, please refer to your appointment letter or read the following guidance for specific details on visiting so you are COVID-19 safe.
The hospital started life in 1889 as an isolation hospital for fever cases and by 1914 the hospital had 28 beds. During the First World War three more blocks were added to accommodate military patients and the hospital was used by the army and the navy in the Second World War.
After a series of rebuilds and refurbishments, today’s hospital is home to Jersey and Guernsey Wards, which provide in-patient care (48 beds) mainly for older people who need physical rehabilitation.
The site also includes Herm and St Brelades wards, in-patient units providing care for older people with mental health needs including dementia.
A range of other community services also have their base on the site including older people’s mental health, memory assessment and stroke services.
