Bridport Community Hospital opened its doors to patients in 1996 and since that date a comprehensive range of services has been added to enhance the lives of people living in Bridport and the surrounding area enabling them to be treated closer to home.
We provide specialties in out-patients and day surgery such as the acute back pain service, audiology, elderly care, gynaecology and obstetrics, ophthalmology, paediatrics, ultrasound and X-Ray alongside physiotherapy, occupational therapy and the mental health team. We have recently welcomed social services, learning disabilities and the district nursing team to the hospital.
We proudly opened the new Minor Injuries Unit last year which is nurse-led and offers a variety of services and treatments for minor ailments and minor injuries.
Bridport Hospital has two in-patient wards – Ryeberry and Langdon – caring predominantly for patients over 65 for rehabilitation from the local acute hospitals, as well as end of life care.
The Bridport Hub is a relatively new venture bringing together health and social care, local GPs and community services. This model is being replicated in other areas and is seen as innovative nationally.
Bridport Hospital would not be able to provide many of the above services without the support of the Bridport Hospital League of Friends. Over the years they have purchased specialist equipment for departments and continue to provide help for patients as well as run the busy League of Friends Coffee Shop in the hospital foyer.
Our activities supplement the service given by Bridport Community Hospital for patients and staff by provision of facilities and equipment which fall outside the NHS funding priorities. To raise funds and receive gifts, donations and legacies. To recruit voluntary workers for the coffee shop and trolley service to the wards.Website: http://www.bchlof.org/home
