Staff Extranet >
We are now allowing limited visiting to our inpatient hospital wards and mental health units, in line with current COVID-19 restrictions.
Visiting is only permitted once a patient has been admitted for 72 hours and we know they do not have the virus.
Unfortunately, no visitors are allowed for patients who have COVID-19, except for compassionate reasons – for example, to see people receiving end-of-life care.
We understand these restrictions are very difficult, but are necessary to slow the spread of the virus and keep people safe. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We are offering a virtual inpatient visiting service at a number of our sites, where electronic tablets are given to inpatients to keep in contact with relatives and friends via video.
Outpatient appointments are continuing to take place where appropriate and where it is safe to do so. We would recommend you come alone unless it is with a child or someone that needs additional support. For further information please review how our services are running or contact the service directly. Prior to attending a site, please refer to your appointment letter or read the following guidance for specific details on visiting so you are COVID-19 safe.
The Dowager Marchioness of Westminster gave the land for the Hospital in 1870 and the hospital was opened in 1874 in memory of her husband the Marquis of Westminster, who owned many estates in and around Shaftesbury.
Since then it has had many updates and improvements that bring us up to the present day. But one thing remains unchanged – the spectacular views from the hospital across the Blackmore Vale, which is medicine in itself.
The hospital is in the heart of this rural community and is very much loved and valued by local people. We pride ourselves on our commitment to our patients and, although a small hospital, we strive to ensure we are responsive to patients’ needs, whether it’s end of life care or rehabilitation.
